Spin Digital at IBC 2023

Berlin, September 5 2023 – Spin Digital announces its participation in this year’s IBC Exhibition that will be held at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam from September 15 to 18 at Booth 1.B32 (Spin Digital).

At IBC 2023 Spin Digital will showcase the latest advances in HEVC and VVC 8K live applications, with a demonstration of a complete workflow for 8K 60-fps 10-bit HDR VVC live encoding, streaming, and playback.

Spin Digital will present its professional codec solution, available as encoders, media players and SDK. Spin Digital solutions are designed for innovative applications in broadcasting and streaming that require the maximum level of quality and compression, with a focus on video formats featuring UHD-4K and 8K, high dynamic range (HDR), and high frame rates (HFR), and live immersive VR.

8K 60-fps VVC Live Encoding: Demo and Product Launch

Spin Digital is announcing a new version of its HEVC and VVC live encoder (Spin Enc Live v2.1) which includes performance optimizations that make possible 8K 60-fps  VVC and 8K 120-fps HEVC live encoding using the latest generation of CPU architectures, as well as quality optimizations for better encoding content with camera noise, screen content, and live adaptive bitrate applications.

More information about the new release here: Spin Digital Succeeds in Reaching 8Kp60 VVC and 8Kp120 HEVC Live Encoding.

An on-site demonstration of 8K 60-fps VVC live encoding, streaming, and playback will be presented at the Spin Digital booth (1.B32, Hall 1). A complete live 8K workflow will be showcased featuring: SDI media server based on Spin Player Raw, live VVC encoding and using Spin Enc Live, and 8K VVC playback on a compact PC using Spin Player VVC.

Smooth Adaptive Resolution Switching with VVC: Demo and Paper

Spin Digital has partnered with Fraunhofer HHI to demonstrate a novel technique for adaptive bitrate streaming (ABR) with HLS/DASH using the so-called open-GOP encoding with VVC. Compared to closed GOP coding, which is mandatory in current adaptive streaming services, ABR streaming with open GOP results in additional bitrate savings and, overall, better perceived quality.

At the Frauhofer booth (8.B80, Hall 8), Fraunhofer HHI will showcase the live VVC adaptive streaming use case using Spin Digital’s live encoder.

The demo is accompanied by a technical paper titled “Best of both worlds – VVC enables open-gop coding in adaptive streaming workflows” that will be presented in the IBC conference in the “Advances in video coding and processing” session, on September 16 at 14:15h in the conference room E102.

More information about this demo can be found on the Fraunhofer HHI website, and more information about the paper on the IBC conference website.
