Spin Digital at InterBEE 2024
Berlin, Tokyo, November 14th 2024. Spin Digital, the leader in high performance video codecs, announced its participation in the InterBEE tradeshow. The event, scheduled to take place from 13 to 15 of November 2024 at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, is the main exhibition in Japan for audio, video and media technology.
At InterBEE 2024, Spin Digital will be showcasing its latest advancements in video codecs, including a demonstration of a VVC encoder optimized for High Frame Rates (HFR) and a 16K immersive video transcoder.
Our solutions are designed to deliver exceptional video quality, efficiency and performance across a wide range of applications, including live streaming, broadcasting, transcoding, and immersive media.

Demos at InterBEE: seeing is believing
At InterBEE we will be presenting two main demonstrations, showcasing the advanced capabilities of our video codecs:
- 4K VVC live encoding with HFR and ST 2110
- 16K HEVC file transcoding with Davinci plugin for immersive media
4K VVC live encoding with HFR and ST 2110
Spin Digital is presenting an end-to-end demonstration of live HFR encoding showcasing the latest development of the encoder, media player and SDK. It includes:
- Source media player: Using Spin Digital uncompressed media player (Spin Player Raw) to play uncompressed 4K HFR video with ST 2110 output.
- Live VVC encoder: Spin Digital Live encoder (Spin Enc Live) captures the uncompressed content using ST 2110 interface, encodes 4K HFR using the VVC encoder with content-aware encoding, and sends out the live stream using HLS and SRT protocols.
- VVC media player: Using Spin Digital Media Player (Spin Player VVC) to receive, decode and render the compressed video stream.
- 4K HFR TV: The media player is connected, through an HDMI 2.1 interface, to a 55-inch Sony OLED Bravia TV (XRJ-55A95K). The TV was kindly provided by Sony Corporation.
- 4K HFR content: 4K content with 120 fps, BT.2020 color gamut, and 10-bit HDR was kindly provided by Qooop, Inc.
The figure below illustrates the demo presented at the booth, including the specifications for the 4K VVC live encoder.
HFR Video and Live Encoding
High Frame Rates –HFR– (e.g. frame rates beyond 60 fps including 100 and 120 fps) allows the end user to perceive a high level of spatial detail and smooth natural motion simultaneously. This is particularly important for high action content such as live sports and other content with high action scenes.
Spin Digital live encoder (Spin Enc Live) is a highly optimized encoder that can operate in real-time for HFR content for 4K and 8K (HEVC and VVC).
The encoder relies on an advanced parallel processing architecture allowing for a “complete frame” encoding, without relying on tiles or muti-encoder solutions, resulting in very high perceptual quality, high performance and reliability, overall quality consistency and low delay.
The encoder includes all the features required for HFR broadcasting and live streaming such as advanced rate control, perceptual optimized encoding, content-aware encoding, and input capture based on SDI, TS over IP and ST 2110.
ST 2110 interface
The Spin Digital Encoder and Player now support the ST 2110 standard for IP-based workflows, providing a more flexible and efficient alternative to traditional SDI workflows. Spin Digital implementation is based on Nvidia Mellanox Connect-X adapters which can reach the performance required for the most demanding applications including 8K up 120 frames per second.
16K immersive video transcoder, with plugin for Davinci Resolve
Very large resolutions are essential for next-generation immersive media applications such as virtual reality using state-of-the-art headsets or large video projection in immersive environments.
While 8K is now commonly accepted as the minimum resolution for 360° video for current immersive applications, larger resolutions including 12K and 16K are emerging for higher quality displays and viewing environments. These ultra high resolutions are needed to ensure that the entire panoramic video is represented with clear and fine details, also for 3D stereoscopic rendering, and to avoid screen door effects.
Encoding such large files can be time consuming and resource intensive. Spin Digital file transcoder (Spin Enc File) has been optimized for very large video files, with ultra-optimized parallel processing and highly efficient memory utilization, that overall result in very fast encoding, high quality, and reduced costs for encoding equipment. The encoder also supports professional video formats such as 4:2:2, 4:4:4 and 10 and 12-bit which are popular for immersive media files.
With Spin Enc File, encoding a 16K file (15360×8640 px) in a workstation with a 96 core CPU (AMD EPYC 9654) results in 20 fps, meaning that 20 min of 16K content can be encoded in 1 hour.
The encoder is available in multiple formats, including: a low-level C/C++ SDK, an FFmpeg plugin and a plugin for Davinci Resolve.
