Spin Digital to Demonstrate VVC and HEVC 8K Live Streaming with MPEG-H Audio at IBC 2022

Berlin, August 24, 2022 – Spin Digital, the provider of high-performance video codecs, announced today its participation at the IBC 2022 trade show with new versions of encoders, media players, and SDK optimized for UHD (4K and 8K) live broadcast and streaming.

Onsite demonstrations will be presented from September 9th to 12th at the Spin Digital Booth: Hall 1-D98, at the RAI Amsterdam Convention Center.

The main features of the new products and demos are:

  • New version of the HEVC/H.265 encoder for 8K live
  • Introducing the new VVC/H.266 encoder for 4K and 8K live
  • MPEG-H Audio live encoding, streaming and playback.
  • Next-generation Media Player for low-latency live streaming

HEVC Live Encoder

A new version of the HEVC/H.265 real-time encoder (Spin Enc Live) will be demonstrated. Spin Enc Live is a state-of-the-art CPU-based encoding solution tailored for live broadcasting and streaming of UHD video including 4K, 8K, and beyond, using a standard server platform.

The new version of the encoders includes: perceptually optimized encoding for improving the perceived quality at low bitrates; support for MPEG-H Audio live encoding and streaming; and low-latency reliable streaming using Zixi, SRT, and RIST protocols.

More information about the new HEVC live encoder version is available in our announcement.

VVC Live Encoder

Spin Digital will present its new VVC real-time software encoder. The new VVC encoder can reduce the bitrate at the same or better quality than state-of-the-art HEVC live encoders while providing the performance required for processing 4K and 8K video in real-time.

Also known as H.266, VVC is the newest video coding standard designed to significantly reduce the bitrate beyond HEVC/H.265, and to facilitate next-generation media applications.

The new VVC live encoder is described in more detail in our recent whitepaper.

MPEG-H Audio

Spin Digital added MPEG-H Audio to its live encoders and media players. With the enhanced solution, HEVC and VVC video can now be encoded in real-time together with MPEG-H Audio. It can then be delivered over broadcast channels or streamed over the internet; and played back using a flexible and optimized software media player.

MPEG-H Audio is the most advanced standard for Next-Generation Audio (NGA) providing immersive and personalized audio experiences for broadcast and new media services.

More information about Spin Digital support for MPEG-H Audio can be found in our press release with Fraunhofer IIS.

Next-generation Media Player – Spin Player v3.0

Spin Digital has redesigned its professional media player for low-latency live streaming. Spin Player is a high performance software media player optimized for professional video and audio in broadcasting, internet streaming, and immersive VR applications. It can play very high resolution video (up to 16K), high frame rates, and support HDR, wide color gamut, and professional color formats.

The media player offers wide support for streaming formats including low-latency reliable protocols such as Zixi, SRT, and RIST. The player supports the HEVC and VVC video codecs, and the new version also supports uncompressed video playback up to 16K resolution.

More information about the new player can be found in our announcement.

Live Demos at IBC 2022

At IBC 2022, Spin Digital will present two main demonstrations:

  • Live 8K HEVC: live encoding, streaming and playback of 8K 60 fps 10-bit HDR video using HEVC combined with MPEG-H Audio
  • Live 4K and 8K VVC: live encoding, streaming and playback of 4K 60 fps and 8K 30 fps 10-bit HDR video using VVC combined with MPEG-H Audio

The demos are presented with the support of our partners:

  • 8K content has been provided courtesy of NHK Technologies, The Explorers, the 8K Association, Andrey Denisyuk, and Fraunhofer HHI
  • The HEVC and VVC encoders are presented with the support of Intel Corporation
  • 4K and 8K TVs are kindly provided by Sony
  • Low-latency streaming is demonstrated in collaboration with Zixi
  • MPEG-H Audio demos are performed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS and NHK Technologies
