Spin Digital at IFA 2015 – Berlin
At IFA 2015 Spin Digital will present its real-time HEVC/H.265 decoder for 4K (UHD-1 Phase 2) supporting 60 frames per second, high dynamic range and extended color formats (4:4:4 and 10-bit).
Spin Digital presents a 4K HEVC/H.265 decoder for UHDTV Phase 2 at IFA 2015
Berlin, July 9, 2015 – Spin Digital, provider of ultra high performance video codecs, announced today that it will demonstrate a 4K HEVC/H.265 video decoding system ready for Ultra High Definition (UHD) Phase-2 applications at the IFA 2015. The exhibition will take place from September 4th-9th in Berlin at Halle11.1 Stand 2 (joint TUBs booth).
Ultra High Definition (UHD) Phase 2
UHD-1 Phase 2 is the next generation format for TV. It will feature quality enhancement techniques such as Ultra High Definition (UHD), High Dynamic Range (HDR), High Frame Rate (HFR), and Extended Color Gamut (ECG) that will provide immersive video experiences. The quality improvements, however, will require much higher data rates. Spin Digital HEVC/H.265 codec provides the highest compression level, with the best quality, and at the same time is able to process the UHD data rates.
Spin Digital HEVC/H.265 Real-time Decoder
Spin Digital has developed the most optimized HEVC/H.265 decoder, which is able to process high-quality 4K and 8K in real-time. The demonstration at IFA will show a real-time decoder for 4K (UHD-1 Phase2) supporting 60 frames per second, and high quality color formats (4:4:4, and 10-bit), using a commodity PC platform. The decoder fully supports HEVC/H.265 version 2 standard (also known as the Range Extensions), enabling not only low bitrate 4K and 8K video, but at the same time cinema-grade colour fidelity.
The main features of Spin Digital decoder are:
- Support for RExt profiles: 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 (and also RGB) with up to 12 bits
- Highly-scalable and advanced multithreaded architecture
- Extensively optimized for Intel and ARM processors
- Optimized for minimal memory bandwidth with efficient pixel representations
- Custom high-performance GPU rendering system based on OpenGL
- Real-time decoding of 8Kp50 4:4:4 10-bit content with more than 100 Mbit/s
- 600% higher video processing rate than competition
Availability
Spin Digital HEVC/H.265 decoder is available for licensing as a C/C++ SDK for Windows, and Linux, for 32 and 64 bit.
